WHO ARE THE MOST POPULAR FLAGSTONE MANUFACTURERS IN GTA?
As we found out earlier, flagstones are natural stones. Thus, they are created by nature. However, nowadays, there is a vast majority of companies in GTA that offer their own flagstones. So, what makes them different from each other, and what makes their products unique?
Each stone manufacturer creates its own multitude of flagstones by manipulating the carvings, calibration and finishing materials. Hence, in the existing variety of flagstones, constructors and homeowners are advised to pick and choose their building materials by looking carefully at the following qualities of the product: water absorption, freeze-thaw durability, and flexural strength.
When laying flagstone walkway, patio or driveway, Canada’s Gardenland is proud to work with such flagstone manufacturers as UNILOCK, Techo-Bloc, Permacon, Oaks, Banas, and Best Way Stone. All this companies are well-reputable manufacturers and suppliers in landscape industry, and are sure to satisfy clients’ different tastes and budgets.
OUR FLAGSTONE INSTALLATION STEPS OR WHY TO GO WITH CANADA’S GARDENLAND?
While there are so many flagstone manufacturers out there on the market to choose from, there are twice as many great contractors in the field willing to provide their services in flagstone installation. Thus, what makes Canada’s Gardenland worthy of being chosen among the others? The answer is simple: our passion to what we do, our orientation to details, and our genuine commitment to the clients’ satisfaction. So, how do we achieve high quality in laying flagstone?
When building flagstone walkways and driveways, our secret to success is a well-prepared sub-base and base. Usually, we spend the whole day just preparing a stable and properly leveled foundation following this procedure:
- We start by excavating a minimum of 6” (15 cm) beyond the desired finish grade (the excavation depth can vary depending on flagstone thickness, sand layer and depth of base material) and creating a minimum of 2% slop away from structures.
- Then, we assess the existing sub-base (the arear beyond 6”). If the existing sub-base is wet, we will substitute 2-8” of it with crushed stone; and if the sub-base is rather dry, 2” of it will be replaced by angular sand.
- After that, we add and rake 2-4” of the aggregate base material until flatten.
- And afterwards, we compact the base and remove any remaining undulations. The base is ready.
When base is ready, we install plastic edging (securing it with the spikes that penetrate deep into the aggregate base), which will restrain the flagstones. Then, we start pouring concrete and using shovels and other tools to make sure that there are no voids and to screed and smooth the surface. When the concrete base is dry, we begin laying flagstone individually by applying small amounts of wet concrete under each piece. Then, what is left is to fill up the joints with the same wet concrete (or polymeric sand), and the job is complete. We follow the same procedure when installing flagstone walkway, patio, driveway, or landing area.
